Normally when you see smoke, there’s fire, but in this case…When you see smoke you know you’re at Mardi grass.
Recognized as the world’s largest law reform Cannabis party. Mardigrass has been attracting hippies and partygoers from all walks of life for over 29 years.
So what is the Nimbin Mardi grass festival all about?
Well, It all started with an idea to bring people together in order to end the prohibition on marijuana and has evolved into this international gathering of pro cannabis advocates filled with events like The Hemp Olympix, where attendees participate in activities such as:
As you can see from the video, this Gathering of Cannabis users at Nimbin Mardigrass is nothing more than a weekend with friends celebrating Cannabis.
The end goal for this festival is to eventually have recreational marijuana legalized throughout Australia. As of 2016, the Australian government has allowed the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and scientific purposes but has yet to follow suit with other countries like Canada in the legalization process.
They are hoping it will happen soon, as several other countries like Canada and the U.S.A have already legalized cannabis without any problems, and all that it has done is benefit the economy.
This cannabis celebration parade is a blast! It starts off at the Police station (believe it or not) and ends at Peace Park which is a skate park that represents the end of the war on cannabis.
In order to participate, simply jump in and follow the crowd.
All this in the name is peace, love, and cannabis.
If you’re going to indulge in Cannabis, I recommend you head on over to The Hemp Cafe as it is recognized as a “safe place” to smoke marijuana. While you’re there make sure to stick around for the traditional 4:20 pm joint. It’s HUGE!
Just don’t overindulge or you risk falling asleep, and I’m pretty sure you don’t want to miss any of the festivities.
If you are making plans to attend this peaceful protest, be aware that the Police are doing random drugs test and will arrest you if caught with any substances, as they are enforcing a zero-tolerance policy on both cannabis and alcohol.
NOTE: Drugs of kind in frowned upon in Australia, do not get caught.

So bring your costumes, instruments and simply enjoy life. As they say in Nimbin, don’t panic, because it’s organic.
